Abstract: 

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the relationship between mothers' parenting styles and self-esteem in high school girl students with and without hearing loss in Tehran. Method: 59 high school girl students with and 82 without hearing loss was recruited and Coppersmiths self-esteem, and Baumrind's parenting styles questionnaires were used to collect the data. Results: No significant difference was observed between mothers' parenting styles in the two groups. There exists a significant difference between students with and without hearing loss self-esteem.Conclusion: This study provides evidence about maternal parenting styles and self-esteem in students with hearing loss.

Abstract: 

Objective: This study compared personal well-being of children with mental retardation in north of Tehran and Hamadan, and examining the likely relationship between personal well-being of children and their mothers. Method: 356 pair of mother-child participants were recruited randomly (43.8% from. Hamadan and 56.2% from Tehran).Personal Well-being Index-Adults (Cummins, 2005) and Personal Well-being- Intellectual Disability Form were administered.Results: No significant difference was observed between the children, and their mothers in these two cities. However, children with mental retardation in Hamadan showed higher scores in personal well-being in comparison with their peers in north of Tehran. Conclusion: There exists a relationship between personal well-being 'of children with mental retardation and their mothers.

Abstract: 

Objective: The purpose of this research was to determine the efficacy of attributional and metacognitive-attributional strategies training on reading comprehension of fourth grade female elementary students with dyslexia in Isfahan.Method: 30, subjects were randomly selected, and assigned to 3 groups (two experimental groups and one control group). The reading comprehension test was administered as the, pre- and post- test to all groups. The two experimental groups received & sessions of 45 minutes training. The control group did not receive training. Results: Covariance analysis showed that there were significant differences among mean scores of reading comprehension in the 3 groups. The mean scores of metacognitive-atributional strategies were significantly bigger than the mean scores of atrributional training. Conclusion: The training of attributional and metacognitive strategies could enhance reading comprehension in students with dyslexia.

Abstract: 

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of music training and bilateral brain training with regard to reorganization of brain in reduction of dyscalculia symptoms in female students (aging 7-9). Method: An experimental pre-post test design (three groups), and a sample consisting of 20 dyscalculia students were selected randomly, and divided into three groups (music training group, bilateral brain training group and control group). A checklist for dyscalculia diagnosis (APA, 1994), Keymath Test, Wechsler Intelligence Test, Brain-Mapping were used to collect the data. Result: The findings of research show that music training and bilateral brain training could reduce dyscalculia symptoms and made bioelectric activities in brain (frontal, parietal.. .). Bilateral brain training reduced symptoms of dyscalculia in all of fields. Conclusion: Such bilateral brain training and music training could be used to reduce symptoms of dyscalculia disorder.

Abstract: 

Objective: This investigation studied the effect of occupational therapy interventions on the visual-motor integration in children with learning disorders (LD). Method: Test of Visual-Motor Skills-Revised" (TVMS-R) were administered on 58 students with LD. TVMS-R has 8 categories and it is based on copying some geometric designs. All of the categories need visual-motor integration skill. From this students, 23 subjects from second, third and fourth grades were selected, and randomly were divided into two groups, case group (11) and control group (12). Then case group received occupational therapy interventions for 16 sessions. As the post test, TVMS-R was administered for the two groups. Result: Findings displayed significant difference in visual-motor skill and its parts such as visual-motor integration between case and control groups. (p=0.01). Conclusion: Occupational therapy interventions had significant effect on the visual-motor integration skill in children with LD.

Abstract: 

Objective: The aim of the present research is to compare puberty problems in adolescent girls with and without mild mental retardation (MMR) in Tehran.Method: In this analytical and cross- sectional research, 90 subjects with MMR, and 90 subjects with normal condition were chosen using method of cluster random sampling. The Child Behavior Check list (CBCL) performed to investigate behavioral problems and in order to study sexual problems a researcher-made questionnaire was used. Results: The analyses indicated that rate of anxiety, depression, social problems, attention problems, internalizing and sexual problems in period of puberty in girls with MMR are greater than the normal group. On the other hand, no significant difference was found on somatic complaints, thought problems, delinquent behavior and externalizing between the 2 groups. Conclusion: This research could unfold some important aspects of behavioral and sexual problems in adolescent girls with MMR.
