Abstract:

Background and Aims: Nowadays, Acinetobacter is resistant to a wide range of antibiotics. One reason for resistance to carbapenems, is carbapenemase enzyme production by this bacterium. The research aimed to determine the prevalence rate of carbapenemases in Acinetobacter and antibiotic resistance patterns.Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 33 Acinetobacters were collected during a 9 month period, tertiary Hospitals of Sanandaj in 2013. Then, isolated Acinetobacters were proved and identified using biochemical tests, again. The antibiotic susceptibility test was performed by disk diffusion method. Also using Hodge phenotypic test and according to Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines, carbapenemase enzyme producer isolates were isolated and identified. T-test and SPSS18 software were used for data analysis (p-value<0.05).Results: Highest antibiotic resistance were related to ceftriaxone (100%) and cefotaxime (100%) and 26 Acinetobacters isolates were carbapenemase enzyme producer. Based on the statistical results, there was no significant correlation between sex (male and female) and antibiotic resistance (p-value> 0.05).Conclusion: This study revealed that Acinetobacter isolated from patients were antibiotic-resistant and carbapenemase producers. Accordingly, determination of appropriate programs for control and prevention of the Acinetobacter prevalence with antibiotic-resistant is required.

Abstract:

Background and Aims: Waste management in rural areas can help to protect human health and improve people’s life quality in the rural areas, reducing environmental pollution, cultivate the recycling and reuse, and change the waste to bio-energy. Thus, the present study aimed to assess the quality and quantity of wastes in Firozeh city villages in the second quarter of 2013.Material and Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. Hematabad Zamani center is a rural areas of Firozeh city located in KhorasanRazavi province. In this study 3906 people were under investigation. the quality, quantity and weight percentage of produced solids in the village areas were calculated separately. Furthermore, per capita waste production was estimated for each village separately. Results: According to achieved data the total amount of produced waste in the region during 3 weeks was 12552 Kg and per capita production in the region was 357 g, daily. The maximum waste amount production (1688 Kg) linked to garbage and trash and the minimum amount of waste production (43 Kg) was related to aluminum and bottles. Papers and cartons were the most dominant discarded materials in terms of quality. In the surveyed villages, Kafkey village had the greatest amount of waste weighing 3491 Kg. The total amount of recyclable, biodegradable and putrefying materials were estimated 5821.5 Kg.Conclusion: Considering the high amount of recyclable materials in the region, the waste separation program from the source would be practical. However, due to the small amount of waste production in each village, it is recommended that the waste management program should be implemented for some neighboring vilages, simultaneously. In this way, the environmental pollution would be reduced and also it would economically be a good revenue for the collectors.
