Abstract:

Drug abuse is one of the problematic issues in almost every countries in the world. To assess knowledge and drug abuse among young adults, particularly in university students is more important. Therefore this study was conducted in order to assess knowledge and drug abuse among students. The study design was cross-sectional. In the study, 200 students who were studying in lar 2004, were randomly selected. Data were gathered by a questionnaire with acceptable validity & reliability. Reliability of the instrument was assessed by test retest method (r=0/84). One hundred and ninety two out of 200 students responded to the questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristic items regarding knowledge of drug dependency and addiction signs & symptoms of drug abuse and it's side effect among drug users. The study results showed that, at least 22.4% of the total subjects (N=200), had used illegal drugs and about 38% of the subjects were participated in a drug abuse party. One of the study findings was statistically significant regarding relationship between living in the university dormitory and drug abuse (P=0.0001). In addition, 65% percent of the subjects believed that religious bond could prevent people to have a tendency to drug abuse invasion. It seems that, living in the university dormitories is a predisposing factor in the pattern of drug abuse. Therefore, it would be necessary that to pay more attention to the environmental living situation of the students, in the universities.

Abstract:

Prognancy is a natural process which may create some changes in different parts of body, such as oral and dental systems. The changes might lead to oral diseases if sufficient and permanent care is not provided. For example, improper nutrition, covert oral and dental problems can affect the health of dental organ and even the other parts of body. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between awareness, attitude and practice of pregnant women regarding oral and dental care during pregnancy. The study sample consisted of 320 pregnant women in their 28th -42th week of pregnancy. In this study the stratified random sampling was used. The results showed that, 5.6% of the subjects had high awareness toward dental hygiene, whereas 65.9% and 28.4% of the women had moderate and low level of awareness respectively. In addition, 30% of the subjects had positive attitude toward dental care, whereas the majority (70%) had negative attitude. Regarding the performance of oral and dental care, only 34.4% had good practice. According to the results of the analysis, of variance there were correlation between variables of the awareness and attitude, awareness and practice and finally attitude and practice of the subjects (P=0.000). Also the correlation coefficient between the variables of awareness and attitude was more than the others (r=0.512). Based on the study findings, the investigators recommend that pregnant women should be educated effectively regarding oral and dental health awareness that might lead to good attitude and practice toward them. In addition it is recommended that the reasons of noncompliance of women toward dental higiene and not receiring dental care, should be assessed in future studies.

Abstract:

The period of labor in women is a great event 'as a result of a stressful situation, which occur in short-time. Laboring women need comprehensive support to enable themselves to cope with the stress of labor. Fear and anxiety may cause failure of progression and consequently, necessitate surgical interventions. The one to one midwifery care provides a situation in which the mother would be able to cope better with the stress of labor. This study with a randomized controlled clinical trial design was conducted on 290 low risk pregnant women. All the subjects were randomized into two groups of experimental (145) and control (145). Non-pharmacologic interventions to relif pain (such as breathing technique, relaxation, massage) were provided to the experimental group during caring the women to enhance their psychological and physical comfort during labor. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of the one to one midwifery care during labor on modes of delivery. The study findings showed that significant decline in caesarean section and use of instrumental vaginal delivery (P=0.001), in the experimental group compared to the control group. According to the study results, one to one midwifery care as responding knowledgeably and sensitively to the individual needs of laboring women would eventually decrease surgical interventions, complications and medical costs. The researchers suggest that, this method can be used by midwives in obstetric centers. Therefore, providing of the one to one midwifery care in the delivery and labor rooms of birth centers is recommended.

In fact the lack of coordination between children's sleep pattern and school time schedule, expose them to insomnia which daily fatigue and influence on their health. The design of this study was cross sectional. The aim of the study was assessing sleep pattern in school age children and the relationship between sleep pattern and some variables such as age, and sex.The study analysis based on the results of 900 school age children for whom mothers have completed a related questionnaire and participated in an interview. The result indicated that Mean and standard deviation of bed time 10.53 (0.90) h and wake- up time in the morning was 6.69(0.73). The mean and standard deviation of total sleep time was 8.82(1.23). A considerable proportion of the children (49.2%) have been sleeping less than 9 hours during nights. In addition, there were significant relationships between the variables of the sex and age with the children's sleep pattern. To conclude, the findings showed that the children don't have normal amount of sleep. Therefore, it would be necessary that the time of school hours being matched with the developmental stages of children and it was recommended that to investigate sleep pattern of children in different ages in the future studies.
