Objective(s): Independency in life activities has an important role in individuals with disability to bring them back to normal life. The objective of this study was to determine Instrumental Activity of daily Living in survivors of the Iran-Iraq war with bilateral lower limb amputation. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed to assess the level of Instrumental Activity of daily Living (IADL) - Lawton and Brody IADL scale questionnaire- in Iran-Iraq war related bilateral lower limb amputees (n=335). The Chi-square test was employed as statistical methods. Data were analyzed using SPSS software. Results: The average age of the patients was 42.05 (SD=6.33).The majority of the cases 97.6% (n=327) were male and married. The most dependency in IADL were housekeeping (91.3%), food preparation. And the least was ability to use telephone (4.2%). Age, level of education, employment status, co morbidity, phantom pain and its severity and duration was significantly (P£0.05) associated with Instrumental Activity of daily Living scale. Conclusion: This study showed that war related bilateral lower limb amputees were dependent in some IADL scales, especially housekeeping and food preparation. Rehabilitation programs might help the amputees to be more independent in their normal life activity.

Aims: To evaluating of the two methods on nurse’s KAP about autonomic dysreflexia in Spinal Cord Injured (SCI) people. Methods: In the quasi-experimental study 73 nurses were selected based on purposive sampling and randomly assigned presence (lecture) or non- presence (booklet and reminder) training group. Data were collected before and after intervention via a researcher-made questionnaire considering KAP dimensions after obtaining acceptable validity and reliability (r=0.6). Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 11 and more comparisons were done using independent T and paired T test. Results: Mean years of nursing were 11±8.6 and 15±8 and mean SCI caring years was 6.8±3.6 and 7.4±5.5 in non- presence and presence methods respectively. Despite “low” score in Knowledge and “weak” score in attitude and performance dimensions, their KAP significantly improved to “good” level in both groups. No significant difference was found in nurse’s KAP comparing the two methods. Conclusion: The non- presence (booklet and reminder) method showed that it’s as effective as lecture method in promoting nurse’s KAP score. Evaluating the two methods is recommended in large sample size and in various nursing fields.

Abstract:

Background: The flatfoot might be caused complications and pain within upper joints and also change distribution of plantar foot pressure in flatfoot patients. One of the current treatments for this problem is longitudinal arch support insole which might be used for decreasing the related complications of this disorder. This foot orthosis maybe help to improve the medial longitudinal arch and redistribute of foot plantar pressure. Purpose: Assessing the distribution of plantar foot pressures within flexible flatfoot patients and the effects of longitudinal arch support insole on distribution of plantar foot pressures were the aims of this study. Materials and method: This was a quasi-experimental study with participation of 12 young men with bilateral flexible flat foot (age: 18-28). The plantar pressures measurement insole (Pedar) was used for measuring the foot plantar pressures as an instrument which it includes five different sizes of insoles with 99 sensors. Each trial included three direct walk ways (nine meters) with normal speed and 50 Hz. There were two types of tests with/without foot orthoses. Results: There was a significant decrease of plantar pressure in medial hindfoot and a significant increase of plantar pressure in midfoot foot by using the longitudinal arch support insole in contrast of without orthoses condition (with shoe). There was also an increasing contact area in the medial part of midfoot foot by using of foot orthosis in comparison of using the shoe only. Conclusion: The results of this study shows that the foot orthoses might be caused to transfer the pressures from other adjacent areas include hindfoot and forefoot to midfoot foot which support the previous studies. Also, significant decrease pressure in hindfoot by using the foot orthoses confirms that insole may help the foot to compensate the function of medial longitudinal arch.

Abstract:

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to study the shoulder pain and strength and also the relationship between them in disable & veteran athletes and nonathletes wheelchair users.Method & Materials: 40 elite wheelchair athletes (20 men, 20 women) and 40 nonathletes wheelchair users (20 men, 20 women) participated in this study. Demographic information, sport activity level, disability and medical records were collected by questionnaire, interviews and medical files. Then shoulder pain by wheelchair users pain index (r=0.99) and shoulder muscle strength (external and internal rotation, abduction, adduction, extension and flexion) by handheld dynamometer were assessed. Pearson correlation coefficient and independent t were used to analyze data (p£0.05).Result: The results showed 80% of male subjects reported experiencing shoulder pain since wheelchair use and 70% reported current shoulder pain. The results showed 90% of female subjects reported experiencing shoulder pain since wheelchair use and 77% reported current shoulder pain. The results also showed a significant relationship between shoulder pain with years of wheelchair use, the level of activity and sport activity level in male athletes and significant relationship between shoulder pain with years of wheelchair use and the level of activity in female athletes (p£0.05). However significant relationship between external and internal rotation strength, shoulder abduction and extension strength with shoulder pain are observed in male athletes and also, significant relationship between external and internal rotation strength, shoulder abduction, adduction and extension strength with shoulder pain are observed in female athletes (p£0.05).Conclusion: Finally, with respect to findings of this study can be concluded shoulder pain is lower in athletes than non-athletes in both men and women and also strength in athletes is higher than non-athletes. So, participation in physical activities can be used to reduce pain in wheelchair users.
