Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the validity in central corneal thickness (CCT) and peripheral corneal thickness (PCT) measured by Scheimpflug imaging (Pentacam, Oculus) and scanning-slit topography (ORBSCAN II, Bausch & Lomb) using gold standard method of ultrasound (US) in Hyperopic eyes after LASEK surgery.Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytic study carried out on hyperopic patients who underwent LASEK eye surgery in Farabi eye hospital in 2012 and collection of samples lasted 9 months.28 Hyperopic eyes who underwent LASEK eye surgery were inspected by ultrasound (US), Scheimpflug imaging (Pentacam, Oculus) and scanning-slit topography (ORBSCAN II, Bausch & Lomb). Statistical analysis of collected data was performed using SPSS software version 18 and paired t-test method. Results: CT and PCT were evaluated in 28 eyes. CCT measured by Orbscan II had good correlation with those measured by ultrasound pachymetry (r=0.083 and p<0.05). Orbscan II had good correlation in CCT measurement with those measured by Pentacam HR (p<0.05 and r=0.072). PCT measured by Pentacam HR had good correlation with those ultrasound pachymetry readings and there is no considerable discrepancy between two methods. Orbscan II had good correlation in superior, inferior and temporal corneal thickness but there was considerable discrepancy in nasal corneal thickness measured by Orbscan II with those of ultrasound pachymetry (sig=0.01, t=-2.74, p<0.05).Conclusion: Pentacam HR and ORBSCAN II showed good correlation with US in CCT measurement; however, in PCT measurement Pentacam HR had better correlation compared to ORBSCAN II in hyperopic patients after LASEK refractive surgery.

Background and Aim: In order to make a dimensional proportion between human and equipment or environment, anthropometric data bank is essential. Anthropometry has an important role in industrial management and ergonomic design. This information is needed to be collected regularly in every society. The purpose of this study was to determine clavicle length to height ratio according to gender in adults, between ages 20-30 in Kerman.Materials and Methods: In this descriptive and analytical stud, cluster sampling method was used to select the subjects. Participants were 800 Iranian people in Kerman (400 males and 400 females) who were selected randomly. Length of right and left Clavicle, shoulder width, length of right and left upper extremity, as well as height and weight of the participants were measured. For anthropometric measurements, metallic and plastic tape, goniometer, caliper and actually weighing scales were used. Results: The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the length of clavicle and height, shoulder width, and length of right and left upper extremities. According to our results, left Clavicle is longer than right one in both men and women. Both right and left Clavicles are longer in men compared to women. (P<0.05) Conclusion: Usage of anthropometric data in designing a product can reduce human errors and improve public health and qualification of products and efficient use of workplaces. In addition, by using a single bone such as clavicle, we can determine gender, age or the relationship between bone length and body weight. It is also helpful in forensics, biomedical engineering, ergonomics and surgery.

Background and Aim: Independency in daily living of total hip arthroplasty patients after discharge from hospital is affected by factors such as pain, fear of falling, hip muscle weakness, mental issues and dependency to others. Although there are specific treatments for these factors, their bad effects do still exist. In this study, adaptive device utilization with the goal of reduction of negative factors effects on patient independency was investigated.Materials and Methods: In this quasi experimental study, there were control and experimental groups (10 male and 10 female patients in the range of 60 to 80 years in each group). Experimental group received adaptive devices before surgery as well as routine physiotherapy sessions. Assessment of life independency was carried out before surgery and 6 weeks after surgery using Bartel Index. Results: The finding of this study revealed not meaningful differences between pretest scores average of two groups (P=0.9), meaningful difference between post test scores average (P=0.000) and meaningful difference between two group changes (P=0.000) Conclusion: Patients who utilize adaptive devices showed upper level of independency in daily living that attributed to easier sit to stand from chair, pain relief, easier use of toilet seat, and compensation of limited range of motion and muscle strength.

Background and Aim: Many theories have discussed the etiology of dyslexia in which defect in visual performance is the current one. Therefore, different rehabilitation exercises are recommended for elimination of related visual defects. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of basic visual functions on improving reading abilities among students with dyslexia. Materials and Methods: A total of twenty dyslexic children, 7-11 years of age, were randomly allocated into experimental (n=10) and control group (n=10). The experimental group performed training of visual rehabilitation through 10 sessions that consisted of accommodation facility (AF) training as well as Nejati cognitive rehabilitation program software (basic visual functions training). Control group, however, did not receive any treatment. AF and reading ability in both groups were assessed before and after intervention using the AF and Persian Reading Ability Tests, respectively. Results: The findings showed an improvement in reading accuracy and comprehension scores and a reduction in reading error score in the experimental group after visual rehabilitation intervention (p≤0.0005); Whereas, there was not any improvement in the control group. Conclusion: According to the results, it seems that basic visual functions rehabilitation could improve reading ability in dyslexic children.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: Aging is one of the most essential priorities of health system in all countries. With respect to increased life expectancy in recent years, we must serve special focus on their needs. Aging has apparent functional effects on speech and hearing processing and the most robust of them is decreased speech discrimination ability, especially at diffuse fields. This study was aimed at introducing different kinds of auditory processing disorders according to recent clinical researches.Material & Methods: We have searched google scholar, proquest, pubmed, sciencedirect from 2000 till now.42 papers were found and 11 of them, including 9 experimental and 2 review articles were selected. The auditory processing deficits at elderly were reviewed based on these articles and 3 related text books. Conclusion: Auditory processing deficit at elderly is represented as speech discrimination problem especially at noisy environments.3 related factors are peripheral hearing loss, cognitive declines and pure auditory processing disorders. Although these factors are intertwined, it is possible to study pure auditory processing deficits at elderly. Time processing and spatial processing deficits are two main causes.
