Abstract:

Background: Social health and its measurement with a valid and reliable scale is important in elderly. Due to the unavailability of a specialized questionnaire, this study was planned with the aim of translation and psychometrics evaluation of Social Health Scale for the Elderly (SHSE) questionnaire. Methods: This research is a methodological study of instrumental psychometrics. After translating the instrument, face validity, qualitative and quantitative content validity were evaluated. 160 older adults completed the questionnaire, and construct validity was evaluated using explanatory factor analysis. The internal consistency was calculated by Cronbach's alpha and stability was measured by test retest method and calculating Intra-Class Coefficient. Findings: In the study, face validity, the content validity ratio and content validity index were 4. 48, 0. 72 and 0. 96, respectively. In assessment of stability, theintra-classs correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0. 969. The questionnaire had three dimensions of "social support", "social adjustment", and "perceived environmental resources. " Exploratory factor analysis revealed that the questionnaire had acceptable construct reliability, at it could explain the 39. 473% of the social health. Conclusion: The Persian version of the Social Health Questionnaire for the Elderly (SHSE) with omitting 2 items, can be used as a valid and reliable tool for research activities in Iran and provide important information to community health planners and policymakers.

Abstract:

Background: COMT gene can play an important role on the properties and activity of enzymes, dopamine level, cognitive ability and as a result in better control and performance in sports, the aim of the present study is to investigate the frequency of rs4680 polymorphism of COMT gene in the competitive performance of Iranian male and female martial arts athletes. Methods: The subjects included 45 male martial artists (20 wrestlers, 20 taekwondo players and 5 judo players) with an average age (22. 48 ±,7. 18), 40 female martial artists (16 wrestlers, 4 judo players and 20 taekwondo players) with an average age (11 ±,7. 13) 19) and 60 were non-athletes with an average age of (20. 15 ±,73. 20), DNA extraction was done from saliva samples. Tetra ARMS PCR method was used to determine the genotype, using RNAsnp and PolyPhen-2 server, the effect of mutations on the second structure of mRNA and COMT gene function was investigated. Chi-square test was used to check the frequency of genotypes. Findings: In the analysis of COMT gene genotypes, the frequency of GA genotype in elite martial arts men and women was 25% and 27. 5%, respectively, more than the non-athletes group, which was a significant difference,Also, in total, the A allele in the elite group of men and women was 23. 75% more than the control group and the difference was also significant. Conclusion: It seems that there is a positive relationship between the GA genotype and the A allele of the COMT gene polymorphism with being elite in martial arts, which can be considered as one of the genetic factors that influence the success of martial artists at the professional level.

Abstract:

Background: Tetrazole compounds have various effects such as antiviral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant and anti-cancer effects. To introduce new therapeutic options, we examined the biological effects of several newly synthesized tetrazoles in order to address the lack of effectiveness and the incidence of drug resistance. Methods: Pre-synthesized tetrazole compounds were solubilized in appropriate solvent and then cytotoxic at concentrations of 0. 1, 0. 01 and 0. 001 mM on HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines using MTT assay. The antimicrobial activity of these compounds was determined by the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of the compounds. Findings: Evaluation of studied compounds showed significant toxicity against HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines. On the other hand, all compounds except compounds 5 and 6 that had methyl and aldehyde groups respectively, showed good antimicrobial activity against selected microorganisms. Conclusion: Results of cytotoxic studies performed on the HeLa cell line shows that none of the compounds could reduce the percentage of living cells below 50% after 48 hours, while within 72 hours, all compounds except 1 and 2 (respectively with methoxy and hydroxyl groups) were reduced cell viability below 50. In the study of antimicrobial effects, 1, 2, 3 and 4 showed 0. 04 μ, M and 0. 1 mM for MIC and MBC, respectively, which illustrated relatively proper antibacterial effects against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and antifungal effect against Candida albicans.
