Background and aim: Nowadays, the speed of access to information for decision-making is very important. The aim of this study was to evaluate the websites of all Iranian universities of medical sciences with Gtmetrix tool.Material and methods: This survey study evaluated 49 websites of all Iranian universities of medical sciences with webometrics tools. Gtmetrix was used in the assessment of the quality features of websites in these universities.Findings: The analysis of the data showed that 55% of websites in all Universities of Medical Sciences in Iran have poor and very poor conditions in terms of download speeds. Among 49 websites examined, the performance of download time of Website in Birjand University of Medical Sciences is at a rank according to the indicators of Gtmetrix.Conclusion: The results showed that the websites of these universities do not have the necessary download speed. Then, it is necessary for managers and web designers to improve the quality of websites through considering the factors affecting the speed of downloading of websites.

Background and aim: Development of a country, mainly, depends on the development of science and technology. In this way, the first step to reach the goal is adequate and accurate understanding of scientific status. The aim of this study was to investigate the scientific status of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of agricultural and biological sciences among the member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during 1996-2014.Material and methods: The current study was performed with a descriptive method using scientometric techniques. The scientific rank of the member states of OCI in the field of agricultural and biological sciences was examined by referring to Scopus Citation Database. The scientific rank was assessed and analyzed based upon "Documents", "Citations", "Self-citation", "Citations per Document" and "Hirsch index".Findings: According to the obtained results, among 57 member States of OIC, Iran's H-Index is 79 with fourth rank, after Turkey (119), Malaysia (89), and Indonesia (80), respectively. In addition, according to the frequency of scientific documents, Turkey, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan and Nigeria are identified as the top five countries.Conclusion: Based on findings, the Islamic Republic of Iran has a good rank in the field of agricultural and biological sciences among the member States of OIC. Therefore, more attention to the quality of articles, leading to the increased "citations per document" can promote Iran's scientific status in the field of agricultural and biological sciences.

Background and aim: Data extracted from ISI databases (indexes) and the scientometric indicators are the bases of judgment on scientific influence and developments. This review article aimed at explaining possible differences in the scientometrics of sciences, social sciences and humanities based on ISI’s scientometric indicators.Material and methods: Reanalyzing statistical data of some scientometric literature, extracting data from ISI Web of Knowledge and reviewing literature, these differences were explored in this paper.Findings: Limits of these databases in one hand and natural and inherent differences among scholarship fields and disciplines in other hand questioned the same use and similar interpretation of these indicators. Factors account to arise such differences include among others: discrepancies in ISI coverage of science, social science and humanities, different national/international orientation of ISI indexed journals in terms of different scholarship fields, disciplines and domains, variations in theatrical developments and consequent variations in citing and publishing behaviors of scholars, different publication formats and different target audience, language barriers (domination of English language in ISI indexes), tendency to one-authored publishing in some soft/qualitative fields, and citation to multiple written communication media in social science and humanities rather than in science.Conclusion: Considering the limitations of ISI scientometric indicators in evaluating all disciplines and fields, a methodology including current reformed methods in scientometrics and peer judgment is needed for achieving the best way, especially for scientometrics in qualitative fields of social science and humanities.

Background and aim: Citation is the most important scientific elements and assessment index among researchers, universities and research centers. The aim of this study was to compare the citations of researchers in the field of engineering in Scopus, Google Scholar and Google Books.Material and methods: This study investigated the relationship between citations using citation analysis and data were extracted from Scopus from 2008 to 2012. Totally, 100 subjects were randomly selected using Webometric Analyst, and the numbers of citations were transferred to SPSS and analyzed.Findings: Results showed that the median of citations to articles was 4, 6 and 1 in Scopus, Google Scholar and Google Books. Although there was no difference between the mean of Google Scholar and Scopus, it was found that the citations had high distribution based on variance values. Most of the citations to articles in Google Scholar, Scopus and Google Books were 1061, 652 and 72, respectively.Conclusion: There was a direct and significant relationship between the citations of Scopus and Google Scholar; therefore, the use of all three bases regardless of overlapping articles showed the better results in evaluation of scientific outputs. Moreover, even, assessing the scientific outputs can be performed through Google Scholar in case of lack of access to Scopus.

Background and aim: Assessment of scientific outputs is necessary. This paper studied Royan Institute’s research outputs in Web of Science from 1997 to 2014.Material and methods: Data were collected from Web of Science database using Scientometrics methods. Data received, analyzed using Excel 2010 and Bibexcel, and data visualized using VOS viewer.Findings: Royan Institute had 892 documents in total, which was about half percent of scientific documents in country in 2014 and the average of annual growth rate has been about 43%. Three areas of gynecology, reproductive biology and cell biology research constituted the main research topics of Royan. Hirsch index of the Institute was 37 and 40% of its scientific documents published in Q1 and Q2 Journals. Average citation to each article of international collaboration, national collaboration and non-collaboration papers was 14, 6, and 4, respectively.Conclusion: The Royan Institute is one of the main Institutes in the field of medical research and its output growth rate was higher than that of Iran. Evaluation of quality indicators showed the relative quality of scientific outputs and collaborative papers of this Institute had higher quality in terms of citation impact.

Background and aim: Nowadays, many of the databases provide Citation Management Softwares for researchers in order to facilitate the research. The purpose of this study was to determine the rate of using citation management softwares in available databases of Tehran University of Medical Sciences.Material and methods: This study is an applied research, which has been carried out using survey method. The statistical population of this research involves 20 available databases of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Data was collected through direct observation, inserted into the statistical software Excel and analyzed due to research targets.Findings: The results showed that among the twenty studied databases, Oxford Journals database obtained the first rank, regarding the rate of using the softwares with usage of 100 percent. PubMed, Thieme Medical Journals and Cochrane Library databases had the lowest rate of using the software (14 percent). Among the range of softwares used, EndNote and Ref Works softwares obtaining the first rank, having the most usage (65 percent) among the studied databases. But Zotero and Mendeley software were used only in 3 databases (15 percent).Conclusion: The amount of the application of citation management softwares varies in different databases. In most databases, citation management softwares was used, but in some databases, citation management softwares was not used.
