Abstract:

Background: Endometrial carcinoma is the second most common neoplasm in women, and understanding the genes involved in its occurrence can help in understanding the disease behavior and, ultimately, in treating it.Methods: There were 35 samples of frozen endometrial carcinoma tissues and 24 samples of normal endometrium adjacent to the tumors. Cell total RNA was extracted, followed by DNaseI enzyme treatment. Using random hexamers cDNA was synthesized. We measured PSMB9 gene expression by RT-qPCR using exon junction-specific primers. The statistical analysis was performed using REST2009 software.Findings: The observation of two ribosomal RNA bands showed that RNA was not broken during extraction. The appropriate concentration of extracted RNA was in the appropriate range for cDNA. Examination of the melting curve showed that specific amplification of the PSMB9 gene was performed. The difference in PSMB9 mRNA expression between endometrial carcinoma tissue and adjacent normal tissue was 0.266 units. This was considered significant according to a P of 0.008.Conclusion: There was a decrease in PSMB9 gene expression in endometrial carcinoma tissues compared with normal endometrial tissues adjacent to the tumor. The fact that PSMB9 expression has decreased may indicate that the gene has tumor suppressor functions.

Background: Constipation is one of the most common gastrointestinal complaints among hospitalized patients due to acute myocardial infarction. So, this study was conducted to determine the effect of Plantago on constipation prevention in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Methods: This research was a triple-blind randomized clinical trial that was conducted on patients with acute myocardial infarction admitted to cardiac intensive care units in Amirkabir and Amiral Mominin hospitals in Arak City in 2017, in two intervention and control groups. In this study, the intervention group received a sachet of saffron shell powder and the control group received a packaged cellulose sachet in an empty stomach for three days. Demographic information and Criteria for Assessing Constipation Symptoms (CACS) were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test.Findings: Of 110 patients, 62 (56.36%) cases were female, and 48 (43.63%) were male. The mean and standard deviation of the patient's age in the intervention group was 64.58 ± 3.7 and 64.2 ± 2.7 years in the control group. At the end of the study, of 55 patients in the intervention group, 14(25.45%) patients had constipation, and 41 (74.55%) patients did not have constipation. But, all the patients in the control group suffered from constipation. Conclusion: The results showed that consumption of Plantago among patients hospitalized in cardiac care units (CCU) prevented the occurrence of constipation.

Abstract:

Background: Given the increasing need for the use of ionizing radiation during pregnancy, the increase in the incidence of radiation therapy-related cancers has received attention. This study aims to determine the fetal dose resulting from whole-brain radiation therapy using two methods: a cobalt-60 treatment machine and a linear accelerator. Methods: Using the Alderson RANDO phantom, after performing the calibration of TLD-100 chips, the fetal dose at weeks 12, 24, and 36 of pregnancy was evaluated based on the distance from the primary treatment field. The total brain radiation with therapeutic lateral opposing fields was delivered parallel to the phantom in a supine position. The treatment technique was carried out at SSDs of 100 cm and 80 cm for the linear accelerator and cobalt machine, respectively. The absorbed dose was measured using a TLD reader.Findings: He mean radiation dose in an unshielded conceptus at gestational ages of 12, 24, and 36 weeks were about 926 ± 47, 2160 ± 125 and 6372 ± 498 micro Gy for Cobalt-60 gamma rays and 4559 ± 207, 6005 ± 260 and 6383 ± 228 micro Gy for 9 MV X-rays from linear accelerator. Conclusion: Dosimetric results indicate that most of the dose from internal scatter radiation in the mother's body comes from scatter, and protecting the abdomen can only be partially effective. As the fetal age increases, the received dose varies significantly. Therefore, it is better not to rely on the average dose when assessing fetal dose, and the fetal dose should be estimated based on its maximum age.
