Abstract:

Background: In traditional medicine, Lavender and Rosemary are referred as antispasmodic agents. However, so far their direct effects on uterus contraction have not been reported. This study aimed to assess antispasmodic effect of hydroalcoholic extracts of rosemary and lavender on rat isolated uterus contractions. Methods: In this research, the relaxant effect of hydroalcoholic extracts of these plants on rat isolated uterus contraction induced by KCl, acetylcholine, oxytocin, and electrical field stimulation (EFS) was determined and compared with nifedipine. Findings: Hydroalcoholic extracts of Lavender and Rosemary inhibited uterus contractions induced by KCl, acetylcholine, oxytocin, and EFS in a concentration-dependent manner. Conclusion: Hydroalcoholic extracts of Lavender and Rosemary have relaxant effects on uterus smooth muscle, and can be useful in prevention of premature labor.

Background: Some past studies have shown the association of air pollution with heart failure (HF). The present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between suspended particulate matters less than 10 microns (PM10) and hospitalization due to HF. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, the data from 359 patients’ records, admitted to Shahid Chamran hospital in Isfahan City, Iran, due to HF during the years 2017-18, were collected. The inclusion criteria were the echocardiography findings such as the cardiac ejection fraction of less than 50%, and/or additional clinical evidences that confirmed HF exacerbation. The data about hourly concentration of PM10 were collected from the CAPACITY software in the Department of Environment at Isfahan Province that displayed the PM10 data from 6 fixed stations in Isfahan City. To evaluate any relationship between PM10 and hospitalization due to HF, we considered the PM10 concentrations at last 24 hours before hospitalization. Findings: The mean age of 359 patients who diagnosed with heart failure was 63. 8 ± 14. 6 years, and 82 of them (22. 8%) died at the time of hospitalization. There was a significant correlation between hospitalization due to HF and air pollution quartiles. Conclusion: According to the results of present study, there was a positive correlation between the concentration of particulate matters in the air and hospitalization due to heart failure.

Abstract:

Background: Female sexual dysfunction in the postpartum period is one of the major health problems of women. The aim of this study was to determine the postpartum sexual dysfunction and its related factors in Iranian women. Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis study, Iranian articles published at PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ProQuest, Magiran, Scientific Information Database (SID), IranMedex, IranDoc were searched by keywords related to "postpartum sexual function". The inclusion criteria were as the studies, which used standard tools to measure sexual function, and included observational studies (from 1990 to 2019). Egger statistical test was used to investigate the probability of bias in the publication bias. Data were analyzed using STATA 14 software. The study protocol was registered at the International Register of Systematic Studies and has registration code CRD42019137668. Findings: Finally, after quality assessment by Newcastle Ottawa instrument, 12 articles were analyzed. The overall mean score of sexual function after sensitivity analysis was 22. 30 [95% confidence interval (CI): 21. 8-22. 8], the lowest score was in the sexual desire dimension as 3. 52 (95% CI, 3. 2-20-3. 84), and in the sexual satisfaction dimension, it was 4. 28 (5 95% CI: 4. 4-4. 03). Factors related to sexual function included individual and demographic factors, medical factors, and emotional and psychological factors. Conclusion: The postpartum sexual function in Iranian women is influenced by several factors; so it is recommended to pay attention to the sexual dimension of women's postpartum counseling, and to plan interventional measures in this regard.
