Abstract:

Background A. cinetobacter baumannii is an important agent of nosocomial infections. There are several reports on the presence of disinfectants-resistant A. cinetobacter baumannii developed by qacE and qacEΔ 1 genes in medical centers. Objective The current study aimed to assess the relevant antimicrobial susceptibility and to determine the frequency of genes encoding resistance to disinfectants in A. baumannii isolates. Methods In the current cross-sectional study, 141 A. baumannii were collected from hospitals in Qazvin Province, Iran. All bacterial isolates were identified using standard laboratory methods and by the presence of the blaOXA-51-like gene. The antimicrobial susceptibility was determined by the standard Kirby- Bauer Test. Furthermore, the presence of qacE and qacEΔ 1 genes was investigated using polymerase chain reaction and sequencing techniques. Findings In total, 133 (94. 32%) isolates suggested a Multidrug Resistance (MDR) pattern; 84 (59%) and 24 (17%) isolates harbored qacEΔ 1 and qacE genes, respectively. There was a significant association between the presence of resistance genes and MDR patterns (P=0. 001). Conclusion The obtained results indicated a significant rate of resistance against disinfectants in A. cinetobacter baumannii isolates among the studied hospitals; thus, more attention should be paid to the infection control committees of medical centers.

Abstract:

Background Death anxiety is a concerning and threatening issue among patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI). Self-esteem is considered as an internal factor against the inherent fear of approached death. Objective The present study aimed to determine the relationship between death anxiety and self-esteem among patients with AMI. Methods A total of 216 patients with AMI hospitalized in Bu Ali Sina Hospital in Qazvin City, Iran, in 2016, participated in this descriptive and cross-sectional study. Data were collected using a demographic data questionnaire, Templer Death Anxiety Scale, and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Pearson’ s correlation coefficient and multivariate regression tests were employed to analyze the obtained data. Findings The Mean± SD age of the study patients was 60. 25± 10. 58 years. Moreover, there was a positive and significant association between death anxiety and self-esteem of AMI patients. Multivariate regression analysis results suggested that age, economic status, religious beliefs, and self-esteem were predictors of death anxiety. Conclusion The present study indicated increased death anxiety with increasing self-esteem. However, further studies in the different populations are recommended to confirm these results.

Abstract:

Background Maternal-Fetal Attachment (MFA) behaviors play an essential role in adapting to maternal concepts and promote maternal and fetal health. Objective The present study aimed to determine the MFA and some related factors in pregnancy. Methods The present descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 200 pregnant women referring to health centers in Qazvin City, Iran, in 2015. A multistage sampling method (a division of urban areas, a random selection of health centers, & simple random sampling) was conducted. The required data were collected in a self-report manner using the Cranley's Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale (MFAS) and a demographic and midwifery data questionnaire. The obtained data were analyzed in variance and Tukey's test. Findings The overall Mean± SD score of attachment behaviors was 95. 91± 8. 9; high attachment behaviors were observed in 65. 5% of the study participants, while 34. 5% had moderate attachment behaviors. A significant relationship was observed between attachment behaviors and several childbirths, the grade of pregnancy, educational level, and stress (P<0. 05). However, no relationships were observed between attachment behaviors and mother’ s age, gestational age, the history of stillbirth, abortion and infertility, participation in maternity preparedness classes, family income, and parental employment status (P>0. 05). Conclusion According to the obtained results, the majority of mothers had high attachment behavior scores. Moreover, some personal and midwifery characteristics were related to attachment behaviors. Therefore, it is recommended to pay more attention to the psychological dimensions of pregnant women along with other health dimensions in pursuit of modern midwifery goals.

Abstract:

Background Diabetes is the most prevalent complication in pregnancy, especially in pregnancies induced by In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Objective The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of an individual education program on gestational diabetes in pregnant women treated with IVF. Methods This was a quasi-experimental clinical trial with a control group. It was performed on 170 women aged 20-45 years, undergoing IVF treatment. Apart from routine cares during pregnancy, the intervention group (85 people) benefited from 6 educational sessions, comprising modify diet, exercise activity, weight control, and daily habits. Demographic forms and three questionnaires, including the nutritional and lifestyle questionnaire, the 24-hour dietary recall questionnaire, and the physical activity questionnaire were completed by the subjects before and after the intervention. The data related to the lifestyle questionnaire, as well as the demographic and midwifery information were analyzed by inferential (logistic regression), and descriptive statistics; the 24-h dietary recall questionnaire’ s data were analyzed using Nutrition 4. Findings The statistical analysis of the two studied groups revealed no significant difference in the Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) reduction between the intervention (8. 2%) and control (20%) groups (P=0. 23). Conclusion Although the individual training and lifestyle modification was not effective on the prevalence of GDM in pregnant women treated with IVF, this program combined with other practical protocols can be used to treat and prevent GDM.

Abstract:

Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS), a rare genetic condition occurs one in every 8 million live births. HGPS is characterized by premature aging in various organs. The average survival rate of the affected patients is 13 years, and their most common causes of death are myocardial infarction and stroke. This disease occurs due to a gene mutation in the chromosomes of the patient. There is no definitive treatment for progeria, and most patients die at the age of 8 to 10 years. Scientists are interested in identifying this syndrome, as it may reveal the signs of a natural aging process at an early age. The studied patient was older than the global average with no cardiovascular disease and suffered from appendicitis.
