Introduction: Lack of accurate, adequate and reliable information about malignancies of the female reproductive system in our country is sensible, this study was performed with aim to evaluate demographic characteristics of 600 patients with gynecologic cancers referred to Mashhad Oncology clinic in order to determine the relative frequency and mean age in different gynecologic cancers in Iran over the past three decades. Methods: This descriptive, analytic, and cross-sectional study was performed with aim to evaluate the patients with gynecologic cancers referred to Mashhad Oncology-Radiotherapy clinic. Epidemiologic data were obtained from records of the patients referred to private oncology center from 1985 to 2012 by using checklist. The study's time was divided into three intervals: 1985-1994, 1995-2004 and 2005-2012. Data analysis was conducted by the SPSS software (version 11.5), and Chi-square, Kolmogrov-Smirnov, Kruskal-Wallis, and ANOVA. PResults: A total of 579 cases were analyzed. Overall, the most frequent cancers was cervical cancer (43.5%), The relative frequency of gynecological cancers had significant differences among three intervals (P<0.001). Cervical cancer was the most frequent cancer in the first and second time periods, but uterine cancer had the highest relative frequency during the third interval. The mean age of patients at diagnosis was 48.63± 14.6 years that had significant differences among cancer types (P<0.001). The highest (56.1±10.7) and lowest (28.5±11.0) means of age were related to vagina cancer and trophoblastic cancer, respectively. Increased mean age at diagnosis for uterine cancer (P=0.026) and ovarian cancer (P=0.003) was statistically significant. Conclusion: Cervical cancer was the most frequent cancer in our patients. The highest mean age was related to cervical cancer and lowest one was related to trophoblastic cancer. The mean age at diagnosis had ascending trend during three decades.

Abstract:

Introduction: Iranian Traditional Medicine (ITM) has holistic and systematic approach. From ITM point of view, uterine pain is a pelvic pain with gynecological basis. Many gynecological causes of pelvic pain are unknown in the contemporary medicine. Therefore, this study was performed with aim to survey the causes of unknown cases and evaluate the causes of uterine pain from ITM point of view and compared with contemporary medicine. Methods: The current review study investigated the causes of uterine pain in ITM references from the fourth to the fourteenth centuries. Also, gynecological causes of pelvic pain were collected from gynecological textbooks and 16 articles from databases of Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus and SID with keywords of chronic pelvic pain and pelvic pain. Then, the causes of uterine pain from ITM point of view were compared with the gynecological causes of pelvic pain from the contemporary medicine. Results: Uterine pain from ITM’s view is divided into two groups of related and unrelated to specific time. Uterine pain related to specific time is related to menstruation, coitus and delivery. Causes of uterine pain unrelated to specific time include structural, functional and structural-functional causes. From contemporary medicine, pelvic pain is divided into acute, cyclic and chronic that each has different causes. Conclusions: Uterine pain related to specific time from ITM's view is in accordance with cyclic pelvic pain from the contemporary medicine's view and uterine pain unrelated to specific time is in accordance with chronic pelvic pain with gynecological basis. The most important differences of gynecological causes of chronic pelvic pain between ITM and contemporary medicine are "genital dystemperaments" (Sui' e Mizaj) and "uterine distension" that are among the functional causes and can explain one of the most common and challengeable gynecological causes of chronic pelvic pain, the idiopathic causes, in the contemporary medicine.

Abstract:

Introduction: Premenstrual syndrome is a set of changes in mood, physical and behavioral symptoms that occurs before or during menstruation. Due to the multiple beneficial effects mentioned in articles indicating the usefulness of black currant for controlling the points and procedures that are known in the pathogenesis of premenstrual syndrome, and due to unavailability of a study which evaluated the consumption of black currant as a method of alternative medicine, this study was performed with aim to evaluate the effect of dried black grape (Vitis Vinifera) on clinical, psychological, and behavioral symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. Methods: This clinical trial was performed on 201 students residing in the dormitory of Ahvaz Jundi Shapour University of Medical Sciences in 2015. After two periods of screening, the subjects were divided into two groups of intervention and control. The intervention group received daily 90 g dried black seed grape seven days before menstruation for two consecutive menstruation cycles. After one and two months of intervention, the severity of symptoms was compared with the symptoms before intervention. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 20), and Independent t-test, Mann-Whitney, Chi-square and covariance analysis. PResults: In the intervention group, means score of behavioral (P˂0.001), physical (P=0.007), and psychological symptoms (P=0.003) and total symptoms (P˂0.001) significantly decreased after the intervention compared with before the intervention. Conclusion: Dried black seed grape with no adverse effect can be effective on reducing symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.
