Abstract: 

One of these documents is the Islamic-Iranian model of progress. In this document as well other high-level state documents, one can hardly find the word or even concept of knowledge and information science (KIS). This is mostly because the professionals in KIS discipline did not accomplish their function and therefore, although Iran suffers from the lack of real concept of storage and retrieval, the KIS professionals do not have any real concept of this discipline. Therefore, the specialists in KIS must take major steps in order to renovate their activities as well as their theoretical concepts such as: Rereading the world and Iranian history of KIS, the strategic principles for development of KIS, the development process of KIS after the Islamic Revolution, the identity, the principles and rules of KIS, the quantity and quality in KIS, the critical review and analysis of KIS in terms of application, occupation, orientation, impact, famous figures, and institutions and so on

Abstract: 

Purpose: The purpost of this research is to provide a theoretical model for educational planning in the field of Knowledge and Information Science (KIS) in Iran. To do so, while addressing the concepts of ecology and cybernetics theories and combining them with each other, a new approach called “ Eco-cybernetics Appraoch” is introduced and explained. Method: This research was conducted using the documentary-analytical method. To gather the required information, a literature review of the cybernetics' and ecology's concepts and of the studies carried out into the future of KIS education was conducted. Findings: Eco-cybernetics approach to KIS education, like biological ecosystems, concerns simultaneously the environmental factors and pillars of education. Eco-cybernetics approach studies the interactive relationships between the pillars of KIS education and its environment. This approach regards the future of KIS education as a function of the interaction between the pillars of KIS education and its einvironment as well as its feedback and feed-forward systems. Originality/value: The attitudes put forward about the future of KIS can be divided into four groups. The first group includes a pessimistic approach to the future and a belief in the extinction and destruction scenario. The second group distinguishes between the "Library Science" and the "Information Science" and other new titles. They have warned the library science community against the pure optimism about their high share in the future jobs of the information society. In fact, they are concerned with the challenge of library science in its traditional concept and information science and other similar disciplines in its modern sense. The third group maintains that the path to the future passes through the past and present. In order to survive, KIS must focus on the intradisciplinary and extradisciplinary factors. In fact, this perspective refers to the progression and survival in a steady manner without major changes. The fourth group believes in a favorable future for KIS. They see planning and designing an education system aimed at educating the future generation students as the key to achieve this desirable future. The present research, for the first time, has addressed the Eco-Cybernetics approaches to the analysis of KIS education planning in Iran and can serve as a basis for the KIS education.

Abstract: 

Purpose: The present research aims to investigate the status of perceived outcomes of the services of Tehran province's public libraries in their users' life in the areas of education, research and business, everyday activities, and cultural, religious and social activities. Method: This is an applied research in terms of purpose and a surveydescriptive study in terms of the data collection and analysis method. The Statistical population of the research consisted of 86, 000 library members of public libraries of Tehran province (under supervision of Iran Public Libraries Foundation) whose ages ranged from 15 to 79. The sample of study included 620 members who were selected using the ratio stratified sampling method. The Data collection was conducted through a researcher-made questionnaire whose validity was confirmed by a number professionals in the field of public libraries. The realiability of the questionnaire was calculated by using a Cronbach's alpha test, which found to be 0. 97. Findings: The results revealed that the amount of the perceived outcomes of the public libraries in the areas of education, research and business, everyday activities, cultural, religious and social activities, and the outcomes in general were lower than the mean level. The perceived outcomes in the areas of education, research and business, everyday activities, and the perceived outcomes in general were significantly different in terms of the weekly and annual usage by the members. The relationship of the perceived outcomes in general and of the areas with the age of users was significantly positive. The mean value of the perceived outcomes in general and of the three areas was significantly different between the users of the libraries. The mean value of the perceived outcomes of married users in general and the three areas was significantly higher than the one of unmarried users. Originality/value: The outcomes assessment approach, aiming at assessing the service quality and determining the final effectiveness of services in the users' life, can present an accurate picture of the facts existing in the public libraries to the authorities and stekeholders involved in the cultural sector. Further research in this field help to advance the theoretical foundations of assessment of the impact and overall outcomes and to show the libraries' effect on society.

Abstract: 

Purpose: The present research aims to compare the effect of storytelling, book reading and showing films on the motivation for and interest in reading in the 7-to 10-year-old children who referred to public libraries of the city of Kermanshah. Method: This is a semi-experimental research on tree groups, i. e. pretest, posttest and follow-up. The statistial population of the study included all 7-to 10-year-old children from whom 30 individuals were selected using a purposeful and homogeneous sampling method, and then were organized into in three groups. The research data were collected by using two researcher-made questionnaires (i. e. Level of Motivation for and Interest in Reading Questionnaire, and Parents Questionnaire) designed with the cooperation of a number of KIS and pscychology professors. The questionnaires' validity were confirmed by 4 professors in the fields of educational sciences and KIS and their reliability scores calculated using the Cronbach's alpha method were found to be 0. 746 and 0. 823, respectively. Multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) and repeated measurement variance analysis were used data to analyze the data. Findings: The findings showed that in all three groups (storytelling, book reading, and showing films), the amount of motivation for and interest in reading was increased immediately after training and one month after training, but the storytelling method had more effect on the rate of children's motivation for and interest in reading compared to the other methods. Originality/value: The value of this research lies in its showing the importance of storytelling for making children interested in reading, such that the results indicated that all three methods of storytelling, reading and showing films can be effective methods to increase the motivation and interest of children, though storytelling is more effective. In general, all three methods make the child interested in the library. For this reason, those children who attend the sessions of storytelling, reading and film shows would become more interested in library and reading.

Abstract: 

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of dolls and puppet games on attracting 3-to 12-year-old children to the rural public library. This article also presents a research report on the design of the Dana doll project in the Vali-e Asr library of the Mubarakabad village of Qom province, which was conducted in order to generate the enthusiasm for reading in children in this library. Dana Doll serves as an audience for storytelling and puppet shows in the library, and by creating an intimate atmosphere provides a context for the growth of the child's imagination and his eagerness and motivation to study. Dana doll is a puppet whom the child loves and who tells stories for the child and plays more active part in the library programs. Method: This study is a kind of action research (including planning, action, observation, and reflection) seeks to address the fundamental problem of continuous attraction of the children to the the Vali-e Asr library in Mobarak Abad village. By studying previous research on reading motives, bibliotherapy, reading promotion activities and so on, a project called Dana Doll has been developed. During the action phase of this project, some dolls were placed in the library, or children were asked to come to the library with their dolls, and by reading stories make him a learned and wise doll. In order to report the results of the project, the relevant statistics were extracted from the "Saman" software belonging to the Iran Public libraries Foundation, and then the feedbacks on the project were mentioned. Findings: Regarding the observation phase, the results of the chi-square test showed that by planning and implementing the Dana's puppet show for children, the rates of children's membership and borrowing were increased, but this increase did not occur for the adult members. Originality/value: Implementation of the "Dana Doll"project has led to the attraction of children to the library and an increase in their borrowing from it. This research presents a report on the implementation of an action research plan by the librarians for children in a rural public library environment.

Abstract: 

Purpose: To analyze the fiction components of the children’ s storybooks of the age group C published during 2010-2015. Method: This is an applied research in terms of purpose which has been conducted using a survey method of content analysis with a descriptive approach. The statistical population of the research consisted of all the children’ s books of the age group "C" published during 2010-2015 which were equal to 5787 titles and 100 of them were selected as the research sample using the systematic random sampling method. The data collection tool was a researcher-made checklist that included the narrative elements to be analyzed. The face validity of the checklist was examined and confirmed by several specialists in the field of children's literature. Data were analyzed at a descriptive level including statistical indicators of frequency and frequency percentage and displayed in the form of frequency distribution tables. Findings: The results showed that most of the characters in the books reviewed were human and stories were narrated in a forward-looking manner based on a historical order. Furthermore, there was less use of symbolism and the theme of most works was more of the explicit kind. In addition, visualization and imagery were the most frequent elements in the style of stories. Originality/value: Attracting children and young adults to reading storybooks has an important role in shaping their personality, while the role of effective use of the elements of story in creating attractive and influential works is indisputable. It was found out in the present study that some of these elements, such as dynamic personality, symbolism, and the use of different tones, have received lesser attention from the authors of the storybooks for the age group of “ C” . Furthermore, the stories written for this age group has not been studied so far from this point of view.

Abstract: 

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to identify and explain the extra services of libraries affiliated with the public libraries of Kermanshah province and their role in attracting children and adolescents to the library and retaining them in it. Method: In this study, a mixed methods has been used. To collect the research data, a questionnaire, a check list, and an interview with librarians were utilized. The content validity of these tools were confirmed by the experts' opinions and the reliability of the questionnaire was obtained by Cronbach's alpha coefficient (0. 86). The statistical population included the members and librarians of public libraries in Kermanshah province. The sample size consisted of 100 library members and 10 librarians who were selected by both cluster sampling and quota sampling. SPSS software and Strauss & Corbin coding methods (open, axial, and selective) were used to analyze the data. Findings: The results indicated that Quran teaching, storytelling, reading and drawing competitions, celebrations and religious ceremonies, summer study, literary center, book fairs, and exhibitions of newly published books are among the extra and ancillary programs implemented in public libraries. There is no movie, music, or reading group in any of the libraries. The level of satisfaction with the painting program, reading competitions, storytelling and Quran teching, and book fairs is higher than the level of satisfaction other services. The most important barriers to providing ancillary services are lack of funds and facilities, lack of adequate space and lack of human resources. Originality/value: The provision of extra/ancillary services in the public libraries of Kermanshah province has a positive and influential role in shaping the personality of children and adolescents. Furthermore, these programs play an important role in the optimal use of leisure time and the encouragement of cultural-artistic activities for the cultural development of society. Given the specific geographical and cultural context of Kermanshah, applying these findings can prepare the ground for better educating and training the children and adolescents and highlight the role of public libraries in this process.
