Introduction: Cyclosporine is an Immunosuppressive agent by Inhibition of 11-12, INF-yand GM-CSF Gens. It is used in transplant and autoimmune patients and inhibition of GVHD in bone marrow transplations. Methods: In this experimental research, polyclonal antibody was produced against cyclosporine in rabbit by glu taraldehide attachment to bovin serum albumin. Then, it was conjugated using peroxidase enzyme. Preparing blood slides of cyclosproing recipient patients and the control group, and fixing them by alcohol- acetone and preparation of slides from conjugated anticyclosporine antibody along with addition of DAB substrat and creating a brown sedimentation under the RBC membrane to detect the cyclosporine present in RBC were used.Finds: Specificness of induced antibody was confirmed by indirect ELISA, while concentration and color of the sediment in the margin of RBC with drug doses were suitable in the patients.Discussion: Applying such antibodies to design different techniques in detecting of the presence and amount of different agents in the blood, tissues and biological fluids is recommended.

Introduction: Several studies have supported have supported the shark cartigle contains antiagiogenic andante tumor comounds, it's antiangiogenic properties has been confirmed, which is an important mechanism in inhibiting tumor cell growth, but it's cytotoxic effect on tumor cell could be another mechanism and there is little dcientific evidence approving this. So, we evaluated this effect on human adenocarcinoma cell line (MCF7.)Materials & methods: To assess the cytotoxicity effect of shark cartilage extract on MCF7 and L929 cell lines, they were cultured and propagated then incubated with different doses of shark cartialige (25µg, 50µg, 75 µg, 100 µg) for 24, 48 and 72 hrs. After the incubation period MTT test was done. Results: The results of MTT showed that this extract has dose dependent cytotoxicity on tumor cells. For example, the highest cytotoxicity was seen in incubating cell with 100µg of extract for 72 hrs, while there was no cytotoxicity in normal cells which shows the differential cytotoxicity effect of shark cartilage extract on tumor cells.Discussion: Considering the finds, shark cartilage extract can inhibit the tumor cell growth through a cytotoxicity as well as it's anti-angiogenicity.

Introduction: This article compares the therapeutic effects of ECT on two groups of patients, one with major depression disorder and the other with bipolar disorder, both admitted at the psychiatric ward of Ilam hospital in 2000. Materials & Methods: In this clinical trial, BPRS questionnaires were used to throw a comparison between the two groups of 63 patients. The research was conducted on the attendant patients who required ECT as their treatment. The diagnosis was decided through clinical interviews and DSM-IV by the psychiatrists. Those patients who showed good response to the treatment (Le. higher than 80 percent reduction in their symptoms with BPRS questionnaire) were compared between the two groups. All the data was analyzed using T-test in SPSS software. Conclusion: A good response was obtained in 76 percent of patients with major depression versus 54 percent with bipolar disorder respectively (P=0.013).The number of ECT sessions was approximately equal between the two groups. It is concluded that the response to ECT therapy among patients with major depression disorder was better than those with bipolar disorder. A weak response or resistance to the treatment between the two groups was equal.

Introduction: Vaccination is an important part of any health care system. It can play a significant role in promoting social health. The researchers have tried to investigate the mothers' level of knowledge as well as to pinpoint the weak-points in the process and offer effective solutions.Materials & Methods: 67882 mothers along with their 37298 under- fiveyears children were studied as the target population. The data was obtained through questionnaires of three parts; the individual characteristics information, the vaccination status of children, and the mothers' knowledge on how to vaccinate the children of less then 5 years old. Then the data was statistically analyzed. Finds: According to the finds, a significant relation was proved between the mother's knowledge and variables such as the residential place, the parents' occupations and literacy, how to go to the service providers, any delay in receiving BCG, hepatitis & measles vaccines, the children's birthplaces, the source of knowledge, the distance to receive the service, and satisfaction to the staff. Conclusion: It is concluded that annual cluster investigations to assess the vaccination status through retraining the health staff as well as promoting educations related to health state along with special care about vaccination records can help vaccination coverage considerably in the province.

Abstract:

Introduction: Scoliosis as the lateral deviation of the spine with rotation and twisting of the vertebrae on the perpendicular axis is one of the most common diseases among children. This is shown in the global screening schemes throughout the world or is being processed. This study aims to determine the prevalence rate of this problem among the secondary students in Kermanshah 2003.Methods & Materials: The study was a descriptive one in which all the male and female students attended. The volume sample included 2194 students chooses selected randomly. Then physical exams were fulfiled and the suspicious patients referred to related specialists and the data obtained and analyzed according to the SPSS software. Conclusion: The scoliosis prevalence among students of secondary schools of Kermanshah was lower than the cities of other countries (in developed countries, it is 0.3%-15%). However, scoliosis is commonly seen more in girls than boys, that must be investigared more carefully.

Introduction: To control the microbiological quality of water in semi-deep manual wells, water tanks as well as directly in accessible sources, it is necessary to follow a standardized sampling. By designing and making suitable sampling apparatus, a principal sampling will be possible. Methods & Materials: It is fully innovative to design such a device with a protective box, charger and up-pulling and down-ruuning system. The device, using an electrical rechargeable battery, opens and closes the sampling bottle cap on any given depth of water.Finds: The mentioned apparatus with its expected capabilities was invented and tested under qualified referees. The device has been made in a way its down- running part, due to its contact with water, is sterilizable in ovens. Conclusion: This device is able to take samples at the depth of over 20 cm. in water, so that the bottle cap opens at the same depth and shuts down after taking the sample considering the weight, capacity, and delicacy. There are some problems with this device, but improving suggestions to obliterate the defects, such as using fiberglass in making process, have been presented.

Abstract:

Introduction: The province of Ilam was one of the regions with endemic gaiter in Iran. Following the initiation of the plan to control iodine deficiency in 1989, production, distribution and consumption of iodized salt developed in community. This survey was conducted along with national monitoring survey in 2001 to investigate the prevalence of goiter and urinary iodine level in order to evaluate the fight against iodine among the school- aged children in Ilam.children, aged 7-10 years, were selected randomly from all regions of Ilam, The grade of gaiter in 600 boys and 600 girls was determined according to WHO classifications. Urinary iodine content was estimated using the digestion method in one tenth (1/10) of the school children.Total goiter rate was 13.1%, 11.6% in girls and 14.7% in boys. Median urinary iodine was 15.4µg/dl.Urinary iodine was above 10µg/dl in 80.8% and less than 5µg/dl in 6.8%, no one had urinary iodine below 2µg/dl. UIC levels and goiter prevalence was not statistically different between the boys and the girls, neither between the urban and rural areas. It is concluded that the rate of goiter in Ilam has decreased significantly since 1996 and urinary iodine levels in school children are indicative of adequate iodine intake. Ilam province, therefore, can be considered an "iodine deficiency free" zone.

Abstract:

Introduction: Noise-induced hearing loss is a major hazard in many workplaces as well as the community. It is estimated that more than 30 million workers (almost 1 out of 10) are exposed to unsafe noise levels at heir jobs. Methods: To examine the prevalence of hearing loss (HL) among the rail road workers, a cross-sectional study was carried out on 364 workers in Yazd province, The diagnosis of HL was based on the audiometric testing in frequency of 0.5- 1- 2 - 4 KHZ. Demographic data of the workers was obtained through valid questionnaires' all the data was processed in the SPSS software then statistical tests including ANOVA & LSD were performed. Results: There was a significant relationship between age and hearing loss (P<0.05) in that the highest hearing losses were seen among workers of over 50 years old, in the 250 & 500 Hz frequencies. Besides, a significant relationship was observed between the work history and the hearing losses. Conclusion: According to the data, noise-induced hearing loss. was mostly proved in the 250 & 500 Hz frequencies. It implies that the severity of damage in this range can be related to the intensity of the noise in which the intensity of noise is concentrated to the above frequencies.
