Abstract

Methods for insuring BUILDINGs by insurance companies or retrofitting of BUILDINGs as a basic policy that has been followed by Iranian government with regards to known risks in the country are not appropriate from a technical point of view. Developing methods for new insurance policies can help insurance companies to evaluate natural hazards such as EARTHQUAKE more efficiently and accurately. Lack of ANALYTICAL MODELs and methods that consider domestic and regional factors into account are problems in the calculation of EARTHQUAKE insurance rates for BUILDINGs in Iran. In this paper, we first discuss the role of EARTHQUAKE insurance in construction of BUILDINGs in Iran. Then a method is developed to estimate damages, ECONOMIC LOSSes and EARTHQUAKE insurance rates for engineering steel and reinforced concrete BUILDINGs using structural analyses.
