Abstract

Aims and background: Chronic Pain, especially skeletal muscle Pain, is very common and can affect the quality of life and health of the patient and families,Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between behavioral inhibition system and Pain perception by mediating role of Pain Catastrophe and perceived Social Support in people with chronic Pain syndrome. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive correlational study, 270 patients were selected through convenience method and assessed with standard questionnaires of Behavioral Brain Systems Wilson and Gray (2003), Van Korf (1990) Pain perception, Sullivan et al Pain catastrophizing scale(1995), the perceived Social Support of Zinat et al. (1998). The collected data were analyzed in SPSS20 and PLS3 statistical software using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. results: Findings showed that Pain catastrophic and perceived Social Support significantly mediate the relationship between behavioral inhibition system with perceived Pain. There was a significant direct relationship between behavioral inhibition system and perceived Pain (P <0. 05). Conclusion: This finding shows the importance of the role of mediating psychosocial variables in perception of Pain and indicates that the effect of different variables on Pain intensity to Pain is not a linear relationship.
