Abstract

After introduction and background, the present article engages with the mosques' function. The analysis of the spatial distribution of mosques was carried out along with a comparison of the mosques with the educational centers in the east and west of the city and the location mode of the mosques and their density on the map of the city. The article sheds light on the fact that the construction of the educational centers and mosques in the east and west of Mashhad is closely tied to a host of factors such as the historical background, the people's economic output, urban development in some parts of the city in line with the comprehensive plan as well as the location of the government departments. Hence in some parts the mosques outnumber the educational centers or vice versa.
