Abstract

The Holy Quran, the holy book of two billion people across the globe has been translated into most languages. To translate this holy text, the translator must not only master the source and target languages, but must also understand the Quranic stylistics as well as the purpose of each and every verse. The translator must also have a firm conviction in the Quran as a divine text. In this article, the writer examines various French translations of one of the verses of the Quran, showing the weak and strong oints of each translation.
