Abstract

 Symbolism is one the characteristics of CONTEMPORARY ARABIC POETRY. Arab poets have resorted to SYMBOLS depending on the political and social situation of the time they lived in. SALAH ABDULSABOOR is a prominent Egyptian poet, writer, dramatist and politician. Although he is best known as a writer of verse dramas, in his poetry he has made extensive use of political, social and religious SYMBOLS. This article deals with several main SYMBOLS in his poetry including nature, history, cloud, night, Jacob, etc.
