Title

TEMPORAL-SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF RAINFALL DAYS FREQUENCY TREND OF WESTERN IRAN REGIONS

Pages

  77-94

Abstract

Rainfall is of climatic elements which has wide variations in temporal-spatial aspect. Among these, the study of EXTREME RAINFALL because of its destructive and harmful effects is of high importance. The aim of this study is to identify and analyze the trend and trend slope of EXTREME RAINFALLs of western Ira regions. In order to achieve this goal, daily precipitation data of 69 synoptic and climatological stations (Kermanshah, Hamedan, Ilam, Lorestan, and Kordestan provinces) during 1961-2010 statistical period was used, and annual EXTREME RAINFALL threshold of WESTERN IRAN was estimated to be 22 mm using GENERALIZED EXTREME VALUE DISTRIBUTION. EXTREME RAINFALL trend of each month during the statistical period of western regions concerned was identified and analyzed using Mann-Kendall non-parametric method. The results show that frequency of EXTREME RAINFALL days had negative and reductive trend in 12 months of the year during the statistical period under study, except for a small part of Ilam province the general trend of which was positive and increasing. In Khordad to Shahrivar months, no trend was observed in nearly half of the western regions and variation slope of other region had a negative trend between 0-10 days. In Azar and Bahman months, 5% of the region under study had increasing trend and this increasing trend in Azar month was observed in western half of Kermanshah province, the same positive trend was seen in north-west part of Kordestan province which these regions are part of Zagros heights.
