STUDY OF THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN THE ALLELIC VARIATIONS IN DGAT1 GENE WITH MASTITIS IN IRANIAN HOLSTEIN CATTLE

Abstract

 Mastitis, an inflammatory reaction of the mammary gland that is usually caused by a bacterial infection, is recognized as the most costly disease in dairy cattle. Decreased milk production accounts for approximately 70% of the total cost of MASTITIS. In this study, 398 blood samples were collected from the Holstein dairy farms in Iran. A 411 bp fragment of exon 8 in DGAT1 GENE was amplified and the animals were genotyped using RFLP-PCR technique. Three genotypes including KK (36 animals), AA (136 animals) and KA (226 animals) were detected. Frequencies of K and A (mutant allele) alleles were estimated as 0.37 and 0.63, respectively. The statistical analysis of the data revealed that there is no significant association between the DGAT1 GENE and SOMATIC CELL COUNT DGAT1 GENE, MASTITIS, SOMATIC CELL COUNT.
