Abstract

Time-based Exegesis occurs in controversial matters in Quranic sciences and, especially in recent centuries, has been considered by various opinions of Muslim scholars and orientalists. Some of which are contrary to the others, so that even it has been denied by some. Based on library documents and textbased study in Infallibles’ (AS) hadiths, the present paper proves that the interpretation of the Qur’ an was affected definitely and firmly by sciences, misconceptions, sects, beliefs and issues being existed in the exegete’ s lifetime. Although some denied it because of the extremist usage of such a kind of Exegesis, several reports from The Infallibles in interpretive and narrative sources declare that they have intended to time-based Interpretation in different issues including juridical, theological, moral, political and even literary matters. Through the analysis of such hadiths and proving their timebased identity, the origin of time-based Exegesis dates back to the time of Imams as well.
