Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between EARLY MALADAPTIVE SCHEMA and MARITAL INTIMACY among COUPLES. In this study, EARLY MALADAPTIVE SCHEMA domains were predictive variables, and the dimensions of MARITAL INTIMACY were criterion ones.A sample of 35 married personnel from Mobarakeh Steel Complex and their spouses were selected via multiphase random sampling.The COUPLES completed Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ) and MARITAL INTIMACY Questionnaire.Correlation, enter and stepwise regression analyses have been used to analyzing data.Results showed that there was a negative significant correlation between EARLY MALADAPTIVE SCHEMAs and dimensions of MARITAL INTIMACY. It means that the more Maladaptive Schemas, the less MARITAL INTIMACY. The multiple regression analyses showed that "Impaired Limits" was the best predictor of MARITAL INTIMACY except the subscale of Sexual Intimacy. Also significant differences were not observed among EARLY MALADAPTIVE SCHEMA domains and dimensions of MARITAL INTIMACY between men and women and only Physical Intimacy of the men was significantly higher than the women.This study showed that the schema related to concern the Impaired Limits including Entitlement / Grandiosity and Insufficient Self-Control / Self-discipline play the most crucial role in the explanation of the lack of MARITAL INTIMACY.
