Abstract

Analysis of agricultural commodities prices is important both from economical and political aspects. ASYMMETRICAL PRICE TRANSMISSION will cause increase in marketing margin and profit for marketing agents. This study aims to consider price transmission in Iranian chicken Industry. By, using weekly data of farm, slaughter-house and retail prices during 1381-1384, price transmission model is estimated for chicken. Results show that price transmission in all chicken marketing levels is symmetry in the long run. . From farm to slaughter-house and from farm to retail level is asymmetry in the short run. Elasticity of price transmission showed that increase in farm price transmits to retail level with stronger effects. For those reason consumers pay higher price and marketing agents get profit due to price fluctuation. Thus government could decrease price fluctuations and increase consumer's welfare by regulating the market. A government body by buying chicken and selling them in the market could improve the situation. Developing the slaughter facilities through out the country could decrease slaughter-house market power.
