Title

LANDSLIDE ZONATION IN ESKEL ABAD REGION OF KHASH CITY VIA TWO-VARIABLE STATISTIC METHOD (INFORMATION VALUE) AND ARCGIS SOFTWARE

Abstract

Knowing areas susceptible to landslide is one of the first steps in natural resources management and developmental planning. Landslides occur due to various natural and human factors. In this research by means of interpretation of aerial photographs 761 different instable cases in Eskel Abad region of Khash city located in Sistan & Baluchestan province were recognized. Then by means of field work the needed forms were edited and completed and finally, a LANDSLIDE DISTRIBUTION map was digitally prepared by GIS. Consequently, based on 12 effective criteria on landslide including density and distance from the river, distance from roads (ways), elevation classes, percentage, shape and direction of slope, annual average precipitation, maximum 24-hour precipitation, plant coverage, land use, petrology (lithology), and by preparing maps for all of these criteria and integrating them into thelandslide map, alandslide occurrence zonation map was produced via ARCGIS software and two-variables statistic method (information value).According to the produced zonation map, about 10.69% of the region is located in a zone with very high danger, 14.99% in a zone with high danger, 28.96% in a zone with average danger, 27.98% in a zone with low danger and 17.37% in azone with very low danger. Findings resulted from zonation show that according to field observations only 2.13 percent of observed landslides are wrongly classified in avery low danger zone, on the other hand, 11.25% are classified in low danger category, 25.62% in average danger category and 61% of observed landslides are precisely classified in very high and high danger category, whichby itself reveals the high accuracy of this model. In addition, in order to evaluate and justify the results, DENSITY RATIO was used, according to which the obtained amounts for very high, high, average, low and very low danger were 0.05, 0.1, 0.23, 0.87, and 2.31 respectively. In summary, the results show the success of thetwo-variable statistic model (information value) in forecasting landslide danger in this region.
