Abstract

This study investigates the impact of life skills training on KNOWLEDGE and ATTITUDEs towards drug-abuse and self-esteem among Mianeh guidance school male first graders. The research aims at probing into the effectiveness of life skills training on improving students' KNOWLEDGE and the consequent changes in their self-esteem and their ATTITUDEs towards drug-abuse. The research design is experimental with pretest-posttest and control and experimental groups each consisting of 30 students. Three instruments were used in the study: the questionnaire of KNOWLEDGE measurement towards drugs; the questionnaire of ATTITUDEs measurement towards drugs; and Cooper-Smith self-esteem inventory. Moreover, the package of instructional set of life skills was used for treatment. The instruction consisted of 16 sessions (two sessions a week, and each session two hours). Subjects' KNOWLEDGE and ATTITUDEs measurement followed the treatment period. The data analysis carried out at P<.05 level of significance showed that life skills training significantly changed their KNOWLEDGE about drug-abuse. It also created a negative ATTITUDE towards drugs among them. Moreover, students' self-esteems showed improvement.
