Abstract

Background: A considerable body of this research includes the fact that the structure of family has an impact on the TYPOLOGY OF CONFLICTion in family relationships.Aims: The present study is undertaken among the polygamous and monogamous families in Zahedan, Iran. Essential factors considered in family relationships are: the rate and type of conflict among women who are in polygamous marriages and women who are in monogamous marriages.Method: A sample of 300 women from Zahedan participated in this study: 150 (50%) were in a monogamous marriage and 150 (50%) in a polygamous marriage.Results: Findings reveal differences between women in polygamous and monogamous marriages. Women in polygamous marriages showed significant levels of power, emotional and sexual conflict in their marital relationships.Conclusion: The article calls on public policy and social services in order to increase public awareness about the impact of polygamous family structures on couple’s wellbeing. It seems some strategies decrease the level of tension in this kind of families.
