Abstract

 On the characteristics of the Islamic art, is applying a special kind of geometry done under the influence of mathematics progress among the Muslims. However, the reason for prosperity of using geometrical figures in Islamic art is indeed the fact that in Islam illustration is forbiden. The symbolic and mystical concepts hidden in some of the geometrical figures could well play compensating role in this regard.The present study is to recognize the prominent geometrical figures in the different wooden ornaments, tile works and etc, in the monument of Sheikh Safi Al-Din Ardebili as one of the most important Sufi-Shiite Complexs of Iran, and to review the probable relationship between choosing these geometrical figures with the concepts of Islamic mysticism and religious doctrines.Certainly, selecting and abandant using of the special geometrical figures such as star and shamse have not been accidental among the decorations of this complex and other similar ones, and like other parts of the Islamic art enjoy a special religious foundation.The mentioned forms selection can be attributed to the relationship between the forms of star and shamse with the concepts like light as the expression of God on one hand; and the sky as the matrix of divine light and character on the other hand which are themselves among the most fundamental concepts of Islamic mysticism. Therefore, due to enjoying high visual and aesthetic potential, these reliefs can also serve as a useful source of inspiration to the specialties like Graphic albeit with Iranian and Islamic identity.Objectives :1- identifing the types and the most important geometric designs used in the ornamentation of Sheikh Safi Complex.2- Access to the visual and aesthetic features of Shamse design based on the charactristics of Islamic mysticism.Questions:1- Which one of the geometric designs worked on the Sheikh Safi Al-Din Ardebili Complex is more popularized and frequent?2- Is there any relationship between the use of geometric designs and Shamse containing the Islamic mysticism principles?
