Title

THE WAYS OF PROVING THE BEGINNING OF A MONTH

Pages

  81-98

Abstract

From the point of view of both Shi'ah and Sunni Scholars, only way to prove the beginning of a MONTH is the SIGHT of the moon. Only in the case of existence of any obstacles to see the moon, we can refer to other ways to prove the beginning of a MONTH. In this article this accepted idea is challenged and "forming the CRESCENT" has been introduced as the main subject for the Shari'a rules. As a result SIGHT of the moon is merely a way – not an exclusive way- to prove the forming of the CRESCENT.
