Title

ALLEGORY: A MIRROR OF SOCIETY

Pages

  43-75

Abstract

ALLEGORY is a form of extended metaphor in which objects, persons, and actions in a narrative are equated with meanings that lie outside the narrative itself. The underlying meaning has moral, social, religious, and political significance.Attar and MOWLANA JALAL-AL DIN RUMI, the two famous Persian poets, have employed ALLEGORY in their poems. The present article, by looking at the role of ALLEGORY in the works of ATTAR and Mowlana Jalal-Din Rumi, tries to show the social conditions in which they lived.
