THE DIFFERENTIAL DISTRIBUTION AND PREVALENCE OF WHEAT BUNT IN KERMANSHAH PROVINCE

Abstract

 To identify the species of causal agent of wheat bunt disease, 449 infected spikes were collected from rainfed wheat fields in different regions of Kermanshah province, during May and June 2004. Microscopic characteristics of teliospores including diameter, color, exospores ornaments, number of nets on the diameter of teliospores, depth of nets at 40X and 100X magnifications of light microscope and teliospores germination behavior in water agar (WA) media and also some complementary methods were studied for species determination. 417 isolates were identified as Tilletia laevis and 4 isolates as T. caries, the causal agents of common bunt, and also 28 isolates as T. controversa the cause of dwarf bunt. T.caries and T. controversa were just recognized among the collected isolates from Gilangharb and Bivanij, respectively. These two species are newly recorded from Kermanshah province and T. laevis is the predominant species in this province.
