EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON THE EFFECT OF BURIED PLATES TO CONTROL DOWNSTREAM SCOUR OF HYDRAULIC JUMP IN HORIZONTAL BEDS

Abstract

 Among the methods that have been recently proposed are the embedded BURIED PLATES in the erosive beds. In this research, all experiments were conducted in the same condition such as clear water and UNIFORM SEDIMENT. Several experiments were performed in which the plates with 90o and 50o angles at different distances from non-erosive bed were placed at Reverse slope with Froude number 4-9. The result of experiments in which the scour profiles were drawn with dimensional and dimensionless forms showed that the angle and position of the plates were very important to control and reducing scour depth. In fact, by reducing the angle of the BURIED PLATES, the maximum depth of scour was also reduced. Plates with angle 50 degrees 49% had better performance by 49% than the plates with 90 degrees. Best distance from erosive beds was Lp=45 cm for single plate with 90° angle and the best distance was Lp=30 cm for the buried single plate with 50o angle for reducing maximum depth of LOCAL SCOUR.
