Abstract

The purpose of the study was the role of Diplomacy in holding Athletics events between the Iraqi and Iranian Olympic Committees. The present study was applied in terms of its purpose and field research in terms of data collection. Considering the subject, this study was qualitative research. The statistical population of the study was all managers and experts (22 people) and active university professors (40 people) in the field of Athletics and sports Diplomacy. qualitative research included using interview tools with university professors and elites, studying articles, books, documents and records), According to the interviews conducted for the role of sports Diplomacy in foreign policy, 14 factors affecting the development of Diplomacy were determined, and 11 obstacles to the development of Diplomacy were identified. The results of the research also showed that introducing the rich and civilized culture of Iran and Iraq, neighborliness and export and import exchanges between these two countries, introducing the country's tourist attractions, including creating A better basis for dialogue between different ethnicities and nations, encountering less resistance in the communities and countries of destination in political negotiations, possibility of reduced military conflict between countries and the reduction of the importance of military issues, the absence of a hostile tone in sports Diplomacy, along with the greater attractiveness of this type of Diplomacy compared to other types of Diplomacy, were among the most important roles of sports Diplomacy in holding international Athletics events between the Iraqi and Iranian Olympic Committees, from the perspective of the elites.
