Abstract

One of the issues which is constantly encountered by regional and urban planners, is related to that of unequal growth and development of the regions and cities, such that by having a look at the spatial distributi6n of activities in the regions and cities, it becomes clear that such activities have been distributed unequally. In the present study the attempt is to analyze spatially the urban development indicators in REGIONAL METROPOLIS of Iran. In order to achieve this crucial issue, by exploiting the techniques of the central index, Mac Granahan and Preston, by taking advantage of twenty variables of urban development and five population variables, gathered from REGIONAL METROPOLIS of Iran, try to analyze and assess the situations of services in these cites. The results of the study, by using the technique of Mac Granahan show that metropolis as Tehran, Mashhad and Isfahan are in the first to the 3rd rank, while cities as yasuj and semnan are in the 29th and 30th rank. The finding of the study by taking advantage of PRESTON TECHNIQUE show that the indicators of development in REGIONAL METROPOLIS of Iran doesn't have an equal trend and as the charts show where the charts slope alters and where there's a break in the charts slope, the change on the surface of the centrality of metropolis, has certainly occurred.
