Title

EFFECT OF DIFFERENT ORGANIC AMENDMENTS ON CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF DIFFERENT SOILS

Pages

  335-348

Abstract

Considering the chemical characteristics of various organic compounds, it is predicted that their application to the soil would have different effects on soil properties. To investigate the effect of different types of organic matters on some soil chemical properties and nutrient supply, the experiment was carried out in a factorial random design with three replications. Experimental treatments included soil (two soils with different texture: silty loam and clay), type of organic compound (cow MANURE, compost of municipal solid waste, and SEWAGE SLUDGE) and the amount of compost (0, 75, 150, and 300 m3/ha equivalent to 0, 175, 350, and 700 cm3 per pots of 7 liter). Soil samples were air-dried, passed through 2 mm sieve, mixed with organic matter treatments and filled in 7 liters pots. Chemical properties of soil samples including pH, electrical conductivity (EC), organic carbon percentage, soil total nitrogen, available phosphorous, and potassium were measured. The results showed that the changes in soil chemical properties were proportional to the amount of composts added. Soil available phosphorous and potassium were greater in the pots with the highest MANURE application. Soil total nitrogen, EC, and organic carbon were higher in the highest rate of SEWAGE SLUDGE and pH in the pots containing MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE COMPOST was higher than in the other treatments. The beneficial effects of organic matter application on chemical properties of silty loam soil was higher compared to the clay soil.
