COMPARISON OF EFFECTIVENESS OF PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE TRAINING ON DECREASING AGGRESSION IN MALE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

 This research compared the effectiveness of problem solving and EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE skills training on the reduction of AGGRESSION among HIGH SCHOOL MALE STUDENTS. The research method was a pretest and posttest quasi-experimental design. The population was Qarchak high school students in the 2011-12 (1390-91S.C.) academic year and the samples were selected by cluster sampling method, including 45 male students with high AGGRESSION by AGGRESSION Questionnaire (Buss and Perry, 1992). Based on experimental design, students were assigned to two experimental groups, each received six sessions of two- hours each training, either problem solving or EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE skills and a third group, the control group did not receive training. The t and co-variance test analysis of the pre and post-test data revealed that both problem solving and EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE skills training were significantly related to the reduction of aggressive behavior (P>0.05). There were also significant differences between the two types of training together. Also, AGGRESSION subsets of the groups were compared and result of the pre-and post-test data revealed that deference between both training methods were significant (P>0.05).
