Abstract

This study attempts to presents a coherent and reliable framework to collect and rank criteria and sub criteria for selecting the most appropriate logistics service provider (3pl) for the studied company. This approach, combining QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT (QFD), analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy set theory, to evaluate and select the optimal criteria and sub criteria. In the first step the management team (stakeholders) ranked the organizational departments. Since these comments are qualitative and uncertain, the fuzzy set theory is therefore incorporated into the traditional AHP to enable company stakeholders to express their linguistic preferences, and to transform those preferences into the quantitative form for comparison. In the approach, criteria and sub criteria affecting this process are derived from the literature with respect to the academic and industrial experts’ opinions. To enable the ‘‘voice’’ of company stakeholders, HOQ, a technique of QFD, is responsible for translating the requirements of company stakeholders into evaluating criteria.It should be noted that in this study, in general, there are seven main criteria and eighteen sub-criteria which were investigated.
