Abstract

The Society of Iran has been undergone extensively in the cultural and social changes during the recent decades. These changes have been remarkable particularly in the REFERENCE GROUPs of Adolescents. The study tries to consider the role of REFERENCE GROUP concept. This article pointed to the multidimensional of this concept. The Roots of this concept in Sociology refers to works of Merton, Kitt, Stouffer and Mead. Then many sociologists like Robertson and Schaefer’s have investigated this concept. This article according to the literature review, has categorized the REFERENCE GROUP in three dimensions; IN-GROUP AND OUT-GROUP, REFERENCE GROUPs from viewpoint of social groups and membered and non-membered REFERENCE GROUPs.This study has been accomplished through social survey which is applied probability proportional to size (pps) method in Tehran districts (3 and 17 districts) with covering 398 cases. Using the statistical techniques include: dispersion and central measures, factor analysis, and F Test. The findings indicate that there is a tendency among adolescent to out-group to some extent. And also the most influential groups for the aspirations and goals are family and friends in order. And the less influential groups are artists, athletics and clergymen.
