Abstract

Ali (a. s.) is the Shiite's first Imam and the Sunni's fourth caliph. Because of having a lofty stance between the followers of the two sects, he has been praised without any limitation in their written sources; but this doesn' t mean that they have adored him equally. Although prior to the Safawid's era the Shiites were in restriction in propagating their tenets, they didn' t conceal their enthusiasm to the Holy Imams. Imam Ali had been praised before that time for his ethical dispositions like courage, knowledge, and generosity. In the Safawid's period, Ali (a. s.) was considered as the symbol of justice which was representing the Mohammadean Truth; so as his other characteristics overshadowed these two categories. The process was the cause of the formation of the two positive but different approaches in the history of Persian literature. It also indicates that besides the style changes, the change of religion is an impressive factor in the change of literary approach.
