Title

INVESTIGATING THE RELATIONSHIP OF STATISTICS ACHIEVEMENT TO ACHIEVEMENT GOALS, STATISTICS ANXIETY, STATISTICS SELF-EFFICACY, AND COPING STYLES

Abstract

 This study aimed to investigate the relationship of statistics achievement to ACHIEVEMENT GOALS, STATISTICS ANXIETY, STATISTICS SELF-EFFICACY, and COPING STYLES. Three hundred and twenty three students from Fars Payame Noor University were chosen through multistage cluster sampling and were administered a questionnaire of the variables of interest. Its reliability was assessed through Cronbach's alpha coefficient and its validity was established through confirmatory factor analysis. The results of path analysis indicated that performance-avoidance goals affected students' statistics achievement indirectly and negatively, through the mediating role of STATISTICS ANXIETY, STATISTICS SELF-EFFICACY, and COPING STYLES. Moreover, mastery goals impacted on students' statistics achievement indirectly and positively, through the mediating role of STATISTICS ANXIETY, STATISTICS SELF-EFFICACY, and COPING STYLES. However, the indirect effect of performance-approach goals on students' statistics achievement through the mediation of STATISTICS ANXIETY, STATISTICS SELF-EFFICACY, and COPING STYLES was not con finned. It is worth noting that performance-avoidance goals had also direct negative impact on statistics achievement.
