Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the realationship of ATTACHMENT STYLES and personality traits to ANXIETY among pre-university students in Shiraz. To this end, 380 (230 girls, 150 boys) students were selected using stage cluster sampling strategy and were administered questionnaires of the NEO personality traits, ATTACHMENT STYLES, and Beck ANXIETY. A use was made of Pearson correlation, t-test, and step-wise regression to analyze data. The results showed that ANXIETY ATTACHMENT STYLES are significantly and positively related to with ANXIETY. As regards personality traits, there was a significantly positive relationship between extroversion, conscientiousness, and agreeability and ANXIETY. Only ANXIETY attachment style could predict ANXIETY and from among the personality traits neuroticism could predict the ANXIETY of female students and neuroticism and conscientiousness could account for the ANXIETY of male students. In Addition, female students were more anxious than male students.
