Abstract

Khajeh Hussain bin Ghiyathoddin Muhammad under the pseudonym 'Sanaei' (Died 1588) is one of the great Persian ode poets of the sixteenth century. He lived in the period between the fall of the Iraqi style and the rise of the Hindi style. Sanaei managed to transform the former style and influence the creation of a new style of Persian poetry. Therefore, biographers and some researchers have introduced him as one of the leading pioneers of the Hindi style. Khajeh Hussain has a Diwan, which includes odes, Ghazal (sonnet), Muqatta'at (fragments), and Rubaiyat (quatrains), Saqi-nameh and Iskandar-nameh.After reviewing various opinions about Sanaei and his poems, this study analyzes aesthetic, linguistic, literary and spiritual qualities of his poetry. Sanaei's poetry is investigated in terms of using particular words, archaism, syntactic structure; internal, external, end and spiritual RHYTHMs; figures of speech and imagery.
