Abstract

This research tries to discuss the national SECURITY of Iran and especially the role of identities and NORMS in securing or threatening it, using the theory of CONSTRUCTIVISM. To do this, we first describe constructivist approach to SECURITY and national SECURITY studies and then apply it to the Islamic Republic’s SECURITY environment to obtain a comprehensive understanding of Iran’s national SECURITY. Accordingly, the most important factors threatening the national SECURITY of the Islamic Republic of Iran include: Improper mutual perceptions, identities conflict, and lack of attention to non-military aspects of SECURITY, NORMS conflict, economic problems and isolation.
