THE COMPARISON OF ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT, JOB INVOLVEMENT AND TASK PERFORMANCE AMONG ACADEMY MEMBERS

Abstract

 Main purposes of this research were to compare ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT, JOB INVOLVEMENT and TASK PERFORMANCE, also to compare the same variables in both gender (female/male), between university FACULTY MEMBERs. This study was conducted among 227 subjects (111 were taken from University of Medical Science, 65 from Technical University and 51 from Islamic Azad University) who were selected through stratified convenience random sampling. This research is a causal- comparative study and a set of questionnaires consisting of ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT (Balfour & Wechsler, 1996),   JOB INVOLVEMENT (Edwardes & Killpatric), and FACULTY MEMBERs’ TASK PERFORMANCE (Mehdad, 2010) were used in current study. Data were analyzed with use of Multiple Analysis of variance (MANOVA). The analysis data showed that, there is significant difference between medical, technical and islamic azad universities in the level of ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT (p≤0.05, F=3.312), in the level of TASK PERFORMANCE (p≤0.01, F=9.522), and in the level of  JOB INVOLVEMENT (p≤0.05, F=3.744). As well as, there is a significant difference in the level of JOB INVOLVEMENT between female and male FACULTY MEMBERs (P≤0.05). Furthermore, with control of subjects’ gender,  based on Eta coefficient, 3 percent of variations in ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT, 8 percent of variations in TASK PERFORMANCE and 3 percent of variations in JOB INVOLVEMENT of FACULTY MEMBERs were related to employment in different universities. Therefore, the results indicated that the levels of ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT, TASK PERFORMANCE and JOB INVOLVEMENT could be affected by workplace conditions; also, the level of  JOB INVOLVEMENT could be related to gender.
