Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine of relationship between SHYNESS, SELF-ESTEEM, SELF-EFFICACY and ASSERTIVENESS with SOCIAL ANXIETY. Researd sample consisted of 310 students at Ilam university (155 boys, 155 girls) who selected randomly through cluster sampling method. Participants completed measures of social phobia inventory (SPIN), revised cheek and buss scale (RCBS), SELF-ESTEEM rating scale (SERS), SELF-EFFICACY scale and ASSERTIVENESS scale. Finally, obtained data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis. The results of this study showed that there was a significant and negative correlation among SELF-ESTEEM, SELF-EFFICACY and ASSERTIVENESS with SOCIAL ANXIETY, but there was a significant and positive correlation between SHYNESS with SOCIAL ANXIETY. Furthermore, the SHYNESS was the best predictor for SOCIAL ANXIETY in boy students and SELF-ESTEEM was the best predictor for SOCIAL ANXIETY among girl students. Although part of obtained results with other researchers findings are attuned, but in the case of the results should be treated with caution and a greater cross-cultural and inter-cultural research can help to scrutinize the findings.
