THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGY USE WITH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY LEVELS OF STUDENTS

Abstract

 The main purpose of this research was to find the relationship between EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGY use with language proficiency levels of Ahvaz Azad university students. The sample population included 125 students majoring in English as a foreign language. The method of research was correlation. To find the relationship between EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGY use the multivariate regression was used. The result showed that there was a negative relationship between EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and proficiency level. In addition, it was revealed that there was a positive relationship between LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGY use and language proficiency level of students. Furthermore, there was no significant difference between male and female groups in the use of language learning strategies and their level of proficiency. All subjects with high and low level of proficiency used the metacognitive and affective strategies more than the others and they used social strategy less than all. All groups used the strategies as follow: metacognitive, affective, cognitive, compensation, memory and social strategies respectively.
