THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN RELIGIOUS ORIENTATION (INTRINSIC, EXTRINSIC) AND GENDER WITH DEATH ANXIETY AMONG STUDENTS

Abstract

 The purpose of this research was investigation relationship between religious orientation (intrinsic, extrinsic) and GENDER with DEATH ANXIETY among the university students.The study population consisted of 400 university students (200 mal, 200 female), who were randomly selected. All 400 participants filled out Alport’s religious orientation scale and DEATH ANXIETY scale. The gathered data were analyzed through  c2 and two-way analysis of variance. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between GENDER and religious orientation. Also, a two-way analysis of variance showed no interaction effect of religious orientation and GENDER on DEATH ANXIETY. But, the main effects of GENDER and religious orientation on DEATH ANXIETY were significant; it means that individuals with INTRINSIC RELIGIOUS ORIENTATION significantly reported lower levels of DEATH ANXIETY than individuals with EXTRINSIC RELIGIOUS ORIENTATION (p<0/01) and DEATH ANXIETY in the femal was higher than in the mal (p<0/01). With respect to the religious in mental health, it seems cultural authorities of the society should pay special attention to and plan special programs to religious orientation.
