Abstract

This study aimed at comparing EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS of SCHIZOPHRENIC, depressed patients without psychotics and mental individuals.28 SCHIZOPHRENIC patients, 28 depressed patients without psychotics and 28 mental healthy individuals were selected based on convenient sampling from mental hospitals in Tehran. There groups were homogeneous based on the variables of age, gender and educational level. Their EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS evaluated based on classifications of WISCONSIN CARDS. Data were analyzed through one-way ANOVA and fallow-up Tukey test. Results showed that SCHIZOPHRENIC patients performed more weakly than mental healthy individuals (p<0.001). Depressed people showed more mistakes in their performance than healthy people (p<0.001). however, there was not significant difference between their errors and classes. Compairing of two groups showed that SCHIZOPHRENIC and depressed people performed low level of executive performance in winconsin card variables (p<0.001). findings revealed that SCHIZOPHRENIC patients showed more cognitive errors in performance than depressed people, therefore, they showed significant difference in one variable which indicated that the depressed patients without psychotic problems were safer that the patients with psychotic illness.
