Abstract

Urumia is one of the old cities in the northwestern Iran which owes its fame to many historical and ancient monuments including its old bazaar. Like many other old cities in Iran, URUMIA, having many old and time worn urban structures, requires the administering of the urban reconstruction plans. This article, aiming at the study of one of the reconstruction plans in URUMIA, tries to evaluate the positive and negative effects of the project, specially its influence on the PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT of the city and its final results on the arrangement of the adjacent structures. The method applied in this study was based on documentary and field studies and then analysis of the project using the GIS software to study the convergence or divergence of the structures. Although administering the reconstruction plan to the eastern part of bazaar improves the city structure in the stated area, the findings of the study showed that it has led to some sort of heterogeneity in the main structures in the area.
