Abstract

Man, because of his idealism and perfectionism, is receptive and open to accept ROLE MODELs. When he encounters a ROLE MODEL in who he sees his perfection, he feels the harmony and closeness which causes the adherence of the follower to the ROLE MODEL. The poets of the Sacred Defense alongside with the whole nation are devoted to defend their values when they find their land and faith boundaries under invasion. These poets are at the forefront with the support they have from their rich Islamic culture. They purposefully shape the religious ROLE MODELs into a modem character who is in harmony with the social issues and on the right path to the goals and this very act encourages the audience to imitate these characters. The main question of this study is that which religious figure has been mostly used as the themes of the POETRY of the HOLY DEFENSE. Thus, this study is an effort to identify the most frequent religious figures in this POETRY who have been introduced as ROLE MODELs so that the readers would familiarize themselves to the world views and thoughts of the HOLY DEFENSE poets.
