Abstract

 House is a place where the first direct experiences with space in solitude and group is taken place and living in private becomes possible with one's self, wife, children, parents, sister, brother and others without any disturbance from others. PRIVACY in housing is one of the necessities of each suitable environment for human life. The presence of PRIVACY in life environment can lead to creation of proper grounds in individual and social dimensions. In addition, relaxation of family and provision of possibility of proper link with each other and even with other relatives demands a PRIVACY in housing. Housing as a place in which relaxation and tranquility is prevailing, demands a type of PRIVACY. The establishment of a balance between PRIVACY and social interaction is an essential issue which becomes possible by physical elements and in an individual and social grounds of each society and based on its cultural values. Dealing with the concept of PRIVACY in qualitative method, and reviewing the different definitions and some theories of this domain, this articles deals with this concept in the domain of Islamic culture. In the continuation , two new proportions of “being in private with one's own self“ and “being in private with God” are added to the concepts related to the domain of these types of studies. Showing the significance of this meaning in the culture, it will also refers to its space and physical elements in the architecture of samples under consideration which have been shaped in forms of physical elements such as closet, wardrobe, PRIVACY room, austerity place, or corners. At the end, based on related definitions and examples and with regard to the responses of the present inhabitants of Iranian housing units to this need – those who live inevitably within the present limits of their own units, the article suggests the architect designers of Iranian housing units include certain spaces either independently or along with other spaces – which can be detached- in the design of housing spaces.
